This phenomenon of creating mythologies around long-deceased individuals seems like it is probably important somehow and worth understanding.

In today’s society, though, I’m much more interested in a different kind of mythification—the reclassification of living people and groups as demons of pure evil:

  • Donald Trump viewed as plotting Hitler-like fascist takeover
  • Barack Obama viewed as plotting communist/muslim/etc. takeover
  • Climate scientists (as viewed by some conservatives)
  • Vaccine manufacturers (predominantly liberal view)
  • The Tutsi in Rwanda
  • The Rohingya in Burma
  • Supporters of social programs a.k.a. “socialists” (conservative view)
  • Nuclear power companies/plants (predominantly liberal view)

Do you think the ideas you’ve outlined could be applied to explain demonization as well?
