According to a hard-to-read visualizer on MappingPoliceViolence.org, police often kill over 30 unarmed black people in a year. Where did the number "about 10" come from?
A more interesting number to me is the total number of unarmed people killed, which is usually over 100, though it is exceptionally low in 2021 (on track to reach 80-something by end-of-year). It's also really interesting to me that although cops kill more unarmed whites than blacks, the innocent white people killed don't seem to go viral. (Of course, the rate at which blacks are killed is higher, but if the left thinks that police reform is important and also that the right is racist, why not bring attention to cases where officers kill unarmed white people? I could name 3 naked people who were killed by police, by the way. "He might have been armed!!" is not a convincing defense in these cases.)
I like Yudkowsky's take on this, as I often do: https://yudkowsky.medium.com/a-comprehensive-reboot-of-law-enforcement-b76bfab850a3
